It absolutely defied logic. I have no personal experience with hiding from a deadly pursuer, but it seems to me that a densely-populated area would make more sense than an area with relatively few people. The "Ferg" character seems utterly pointless as part of the cast. Also, the deputy sheriff's effort to create a distraction, as he was ordered to do by the sheriff, was absolutely silly. Running around exposed while firing a pistol into the air was absolutely nonsensical, in my opinion.
